My friend was put on this placement and was told by the employer that there were job vacancies in store. Towards the end of the placement they revealed there were actually no job vacancies, it seems it was a ploy to motivate them to work
It was a Marks & Start scheme, I was advised to go on it by Remploy. I was told if I passed it would lead to a job. I passed it but – surprise, surprise – I'm still waiting for a paid job to come out of it.
I am currently signed up to the (as I was told) "mandatory" steps to work programme in Northern Ireland. I was told People 1st would be in charge of my work placement. There is a youtube video they have uploaded, clearly stating that they have sent people to work placements with Quiz clothing, the Co-op and Marks and Spencers. In fact, it is stated that "Marks and Spencers are quite keen on taking work placements, as well" 3.25min onwards: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26ZO40G4R8
