Personal Stories

Stories & experiences of Workfare

  1. This is a friend's placement not my own They OK'd me to tell you as Oxfam appear to deny using workfare. The position is 25-30 hrs a week making 200-240 hrs in total.
  2. Tenants of this housing association pay for services delivered by unemployed people. It has 12 placements of 4 weeks each. No useful training offered (eg. electrics, plumbing), just picking up dog poo and other menial tasks. Since this is a not-for-profit organisation, then surely the monies paid by tenants should be used to pay people properly.
  3. I was paid less than my JSA and Housing allowance and worked like a dog, same work as a paid employee getting 15k p.a.
