Iain Duncan Smith rushed through new regulations last week to end the vacuum left when almost every workfare scheme in the UK was found unlawful.

If Labour really believed in social justice and opposed workfare they would put in a motion as the Official Opposition within the following forty days to call for a debate and vote on it. Labour introduced workfare into the UK. This is the chance for them to right that wrong. The question is:

Does your MP want is what is best for you or what is best for Poundland?

Labour MP John McDonnell has tabled an Early Day Motion seeking an annulment of the new regulations. If it gets a lot of signatures from MPs of any party, the government could grant a vote. If your MP is in the Labour Party, they can also encourage the front bench to submit a motion as the Offical Opposition which stands a greater chance of success.

Take action: So that this can happen, and quickly, it is crucial that you contact your MP. You may like to use this template letter (or see the PDF version here). You can use it to email your MP in two clicks from the theyworkforyou.com website.

That’s it! Quick, easy and very important.

Please let us know how your MP responds. We plan to keep people updated over the next 40 days, as we prepare for the week of action. MPs can claim £250 a month in expenses without a receipt. People on JSA are expected to work in Poundland for no wages at all. Boycott Workfare. Boycott exploitation.

WORKING BAD JOBS FOR NO MONEY EQUALS "SLAVERY"..WHICH IS ILLEGAL

Penny

Workfare/mandatory work activity/Universal jobmatch benefit the private sector. People are unemployed because there are no jobs.

PAT

I contacted my MP Ms Esther McVey, Under Secretary of State, DWP. Asking her would she please sign the EDM
She responded “”members of government do not, by convention sign any EDMs as it is likely to breach the ministerial codes rules on collective responsibility”"”"”"
I knew she would not sign, I just wanted to see what her response would be

StupidToryBastards

It's New Labour

They love the queen and are the same as Classic tories (only saying this because these new tories are something else entirely - inbred wadicals)

Its a insult to ask people to work for free and then when they fight back call them lazy. MPs are the most lazy bunch of pratts, They sit on there ass doing nothing untill they need us to vote then it all about us. I have been sanction for 4 weeks just for the way my job-log was. They said it never had a info about my job searching history. How much can you put on a piece of paper the size of a small box. Know eos who i am with at the moment said they are going to tell the jobcentre because i got the dates of my interview wrong as i am taking stress tabs that make me mix up things. I have been with them since the start and only ever had one sick day know there saying i missed 4 interviews. I take the blame for mixing up one but 4 what a bunch of liers. I don't know if i will be sanction next week since the law on the workfare as changed. You guys are doing a great job well done. We all need to fight them know before it get so bad it will fell like the 1930/1940 slave labour days.

It is time Iain Dumbo Smith was told he is wrong in no uncertain terms or someone will have to teach him the hard way ie by stabbing or shooting him to death. The evil Tory cunt deserves no better.

Davey Strange

I have just emailed my local Lib Dem MP with the template letter.

I will keep you posted on the reply.

Also, just to let you know, the last two weblinks in the Word doc template letter are 'pages not found' when activated or copied and pasted into a web browser.
May be typo mistake or the pages may have been removed...

Not sure if labour will actually fight back as they were the ones that originally brought in the workfare system.

If you are both evil and stupid then you shouldn't be allowed to take care of a goldfish, let alone a government department.

I don't know how disconnected you have to be to think that someone who spent 3 years studying, building a skills and knowledge base, at no small cost, would take 2 months of full time unpaid work experience to master stacking a shelf...

any infant lucky enough to have the bucket toy with the shaped holes in the lid, will already have the spatial awareness to do it.

Maybe IDS should consider repaying every student he subjects to his illegal workfare schemes's tuition fees and loans. After all this type of work is of prime importance!

leedsjon1

I'm completely with Jj on this - considering cost of getting a degree these days (both in monetary terms & time it takes), commanding a graduate to do same unpaid work as an 18 year old with no qualifications is not just a waste of resources but an insult. Whole workfare idea has to go and go now.

Jj

Plus, if you're a full time student, you're not technically unemployed, as far as the statistics are concerned. So the DWP actually like students when it comes to distorting the labour market.

Incidentally, even if people are graduates, if they lack skills and experience to make them even remotely employable then they shouldn't be able to use a degree as a shield from beneficial schemes.
The problem is that work fare isn't designed to be beneficial or fair.

I've listened to a few interviews now, with Ian Duncan Smith, and the man simply cannot perceive the wrongdoing in asking someone to work for such a reduced rate.
He repeated over and over, that Cait Reilly was paid because she got jobseeker's allowance, but he lacks the mental capacity to relate her JSA into reasonable expected working hours by simply dividing JSA by the national minimum wage.

Steven

Iain Dumbo-Smith believes people go to universities for a total laugh and to waste their time. He also thinks that studying for a degree can't be construed as 'hard work' even though it is (though not in physical terms). Still, we should excuse his profound ignorance in such matters because unlike students this 'man' is too THICK to get a degree.

I wonder how many centuries it will take the CONServative Party to realise what the real problem is in Britain ie that we DON'T have legions of 'workshy' people but we DO have a SEVERE LACK OF DEMAND for people's labour. If I can work that out (I only have a GCSE in Economics) then what is stopping supposedly better-educated people like our esteemed Chancellor of the Exchequer?

Steven

DUMBO-Smith can't get it into his bigoted, moronic 'brain' that even if all the vacancies we have in this country were filled tomorrow morning we would STILL have very large numbers of people unemployed.

I sent this letter to my MP Rushnara Ali. She did not reply and has not signed to date. MP for one of the poorest boroughs in England with a huge unemployment rate-can only presume she thinks the Work Programme is the answer. She has lost my vote, thats for sure.

NEIL McBAIN

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU
WE ALLL NEED TO STAND TOGETHER
TO INSURE THE COLLAPSE OF THIS VILE WORKFARE PROGRAMME.

CAN I ADD ONE POINT THAT MAY HELP HERE
HAVE YOU CONSIDED THE HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUES AND LEGAL ISSUES .
IF A PERSON ON A WORKFARE SCHEME
IS FORCED ON IT AGAINST HIS WILL
THEN HAS AN ACCIDENT AT WORK
HE CAN SUE THE dwp FOR NEGLIGENCE
AND HIS RELATIVES CAN SUE THE dwp
FOR MANSLAUGHTER IF HE IS KILLED PLUS LEGAL COSTS.

AND INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENTS DO HAPPEN AND THEY CAN BE VERY NASTY INVOLVING LOSS OF LIFE AND MAIMING

THIS IS ANOTHER DIRECTION FROM WHICH YOU CAN ATTACK WORKFARE

HAS ANYONE CONSIDERED THIS?
